Narek  Markarian is a Yerevan born young singer. Being a passionate admirer and scholar of the music of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and many other greats Narek brings a fresh feeling to well known jazz, blues and rock’n’roll standards. Initially known as the Armenian Elvis for electrifying tribute performances, Narek developed his own signature sound, exciting stage presence and unique image. His emotional and energetic singing style, tasteful interpretations of classic songs as well as his own new material bring the excitement and nostalgic feelings every music aficionado has.

Narek was born on September 14, 1983 in Yerevan, Armenia. A standard singer biography would say "since early childhood, Narek's passion for music was obvious", but that really would be a lie, since his passion back then would be primarily martial arts.

Narek's love for music began when family moved to Russia, that's where Narek discovered the one and only rock band Queen. Yet the King soon replaced the Queen and Elvis Presley became Narek's musical idol, teacher, inspiration and biggest influence. This happened after Narek saw a documentary about Elvis and starting buying one album after another.

After graduating school #1201, one of the best English schools in Russia, Narek returned to Armenia determied to practice more music. Yet he entered Yerevan State Linguistic University which he graduated in 2006. Languages were Narek's another talent, and since Narek never had any formal musical education, picking a musical university in Armenia would simply be impossible.

Narek learned to play a guitar and some piano and started to organize gigs at universities and local music clubs. The interest to the Armenian Elvis, as he was nicknemed in press, was growing and Narek got to be a guest at many TV and radio shows.

In 2002 Narek together with his friends Hakob Khachatryan (lead guitar), Sergey Sargsyan (tambourine) and Ara Ghazaryan (bass guitar) formed a rock band called Jamtown. Jamtown's history was marked with only one concert at Brusov University, yet ironically the band made 2 TV appearances, where they also performed live. The group did not exist long partly because a suitable drummer never was found, and the band's tambourine player declared about starting a solo career and releasing solo tambourine double CDs. This was intended as a joke by Sergey, yet hapenned at first TV show Jamtown did, so on the second show Jamtown performed without the tambourine. The band performed blues and rock'n'roll standards and it's only original song was Mara, Nara, Kara, Zara written by Narek and Hakob. Despite of the formal break of the group the guys remain very close friends. And from town to time Narek jams with Hakob remembering good old times. The group did have a tiny "comeback" when Hakob performed Baby What You Want Me To Do with Narek, an old blues classic at Narek's musical Elvis Story in 2008.

Club gigs continued, Cheers, Downtown, Wheel Club, Narek participated in several other bigger concerts and in 2005 he was hired by Coleseum club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in Yerevan. For six months 3 times a day Narek put on white jumpsuit and performed Elvis live. A great experience at first this bacame quite monotonous several months later and when the club closed for renovation Narek sighed with ease

.

Narek travelled to USA, where he had a chance to perform in few clubs in New Hampshire. Most importantly he made a visit to Graceland and paid his tribute to the man who inspired him so much, Elvis Presley. Narek continued to work on his vocals, but performed little until 2007. During those time Narek made 6 records 4 Elvis songs Fever, Johnny B. Goode, Treat Me Nice, Little Sister, one song of his own Just of You and a well-known jazz standard Mack The Knife, the latter is his favorite so far.

Since 2007 Narek started another string of live appearances, peaked by his first international tour to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. A charity show for children who suffer cancer raised money to buy medications and attracted country's rock'n'roll lovers. In 2008 Narek wrote, directed, produced and played the main part in a biographic performance covering the career of Elvis Presley, where he portrayed the King of Rock’n’Roll. In the same year Narek toured and gave 5 solo concerts in Yerevan. In February 2009 Narek performed at National Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre in front of 1,260, which included the President of the country.

Due to Narek Markarian’s versatile personality he is also a stand-up comedian, he does a show called Comedy Night, which he writes, directs, produces and performs with his friend Sergey Sargsyan (remember Mr. Tambourine?)
